The Warfield Family
At the turn of the 20th century, the Warfield family, and Wade H.D. Warfield (1864-1935) in particular, left an indelible mark on our community. As with Sykesville's other prominent businessmen, Warfield dabbled in many fields of business, from lumber, to grain sales, to banking, and operating as a landlord. In addition to his local ventures, from 1916 to 1918 Wade H.D. Warfield served as a State Senator for Carroll County.
This slide show is the complete album donated by the Ridgely-Warfield family depicting Sykesville downtown scenes and interior and exterior photos of their homes including Raincliffe/Chihuahua (a historic home located near Freedom Park, which is part of the Maryland DNR resident curator program).
This album contains photographs of and by the Warfield Family in the later 1800s (c. 1880-1900) including photos of Wade H.D. Warfield's immediate family members. The original album is in the Gate House permanent collection and was generously donated by the Ridgely-Warfield family.
