For Teachers

The Town of Sykesville was established in 1904. Since that time, while it still retains much of its original character, its appearance has changed with each mode of transportation. Check out our Main Street index on our Sykesville Historic District page here (click on the image for link).

Citizens within the Town of Sykesville participated in World War I in a variety of capacities. Click on the link above for newspaper clippings about soldiers and how people at home dealt with fuel shortages, transportation changes, and opinions of the time.

Sykesville's small population in contrast to the large number of manufacturing and farming labor needs meant that unemployment was not as high here as in nearby places.
