Permanent Exhibit: The Home of William Shipley and Family

Permanent Display

From 1913-1954, William Shipley and his family lived in the home that has become our museum. Learn about the residence's role in the Springfield Hospital Center campus, and how the Shipley family lived in Sykesville at the turn of the century.

Sykesville: Wartime and the Homefront

March-December 2026

Take a look at how Sykesville's residents participated in the beginning of the Cold War Era with a focus on Civil Defense during the Korean War and Vietnam War. This exhibit is the last piece in our four year exhibition on Midcentury Sykesville.

Celebrating 1776

March-December 2026

Try As we celebrate the Semisesqicentennial (250th anniversary) of 1776, take a look back at objects created to celebrate the Bicentennial (200th anniversary) of the American Revolution, and think about what material culture (manmade objects that are left behind) says about the the importance of historical milestones.  

Christmas in July

July 2026

Join us for our second annual Christmas in July, including our Midcentury display which will be festooned with an aluminum tree and tinsel (one per branch--the right way, we're told!), as well as our traditional and early 1900s decorations throughout the house.
