The Sykesville Historic District

Within the Town of Sykesville, the Historic District serves to preserve the historic character of Sykesville. The dates associated with our district are informally 1880-1930. The updated map of Sykesville's Historic District below outlines contributing (historically representative) and non-contributing (modern, or substantially altered) buildings within the district. 

The Gate House Museum has worked since 2024 to update our records regarding the contributing properties in the SHD.

Properties are featured on a rotating basis within the Gate House and information will be posted here as they are completed.

As of October 30, 2025, all Main Street contributing (as well as non-contributing business locations) structures have been added to the index below except for four residences (as shown as "coming soon" below). These property records include information found for current (post-1970) addresses in the Westminster-published Carroll County Times newspaper, Sykesville Herald newspaper items 1914-1933, and assorted photographs and clippings found within the museum and Historic District records.

Our next effort within this ongoing project will be to finish the Main Street-adjacent properties of Church Street, Norwood Avenue, and then progress up Springfield Avenue, beginning with business addresses.
